Inspirato
Unifying Data and Strategy to Accelerate Growth for a Luxury Travel Brand
Problem Statement
Inspirato (inspirato.com), a leader in luxury travel experiences, offers members exclusive access to luxury vacation homes, high-end resorts, and personalized trip planning. However, with multiple domains, platforms, and tools powering their digital ecosystem, the company lacked a unified view of user behavior and marketing performance—making it difficult to optimize campaigns, understand customer journeys, and scale effectively.
Situation
Inspirato’s digital footprint spanned seven separate domains and three Google Tag Manager (GTM) containers, with inconsistent tracking applied across platforms like Shopify, Unbounce, HEAP, BigQuery, Snowflake, and Salesforce. Cross-domain attribution was unreliable, ecommerce tracking was fragmented, and ad performance was steadily declining. At the same time, the company was transitioning to Google Analytics 4 (GA4) and needed to integrate a broader data strategy that aligned with enterprise platforms beyond digital analytics.
Summary
Marketing Science helped Inspirato streamline its complex digital ecosystem by consolidating domains, unifying tracking across platforms, and implementing a scalable GA4 analytics framework. With improved attribution, ecommerce tracking, and cross-platform reporting, Inspirato now has a clear, reliable view of user behavior and campaign performance—enabling faster optimization and smarter marketing decisions.
Key Results
- Unified cross-domain tracking and analytics architecture, restoring accurate attribution and enabling full-funnel visibility across Shopify, GA4, and Salesforce.
- Streamlined reporting and campaign optimization, reducing analysis time and improving marketing performance across all channels.
Solution
To address these challenges, I led a full rearchitecture of Inspirato’s analytics and tagging ecosystem:
Consolidated domains from seven to two, streamlining the user experience and focusing efforts on high-value conversion paths.
Migrated to a unified GTM setup, moving to a single account and container for consistent tagging across all properties.
Implemented reliable cross-domain tracking, including Shopify checkout flow, to restore accurate attribution and user flow visibility.
Rebuilt tags, triggers, and dataLayer logic in GTM to align with GA4’s event model and support a more scalable tracking foundation.
Implemented new ecommerce tracking for Shopify, ensuring accurate purchase and checkout event data.
Enhanced reporting capabilities with custom dimensions in GA and advanced segmentation using BigQuery and Looker Studio.
Built a new customer journey reporting layer in Heap, giving deeper insight into user behavior across touchpoints.
Results
After relaunching Inspirato’s digital analytics platform, the marketing team was able to significantly reduce analysis time, regain confidence in campaign attribution, and act on insights faster. A unified tracking architecture and improved reporting allowed them to optimize spend, enhance user journeys, and maintain high data quality even as new marketing tactics and campaigns were deployed. The shift to GA4 and cross-platform integration laid the foundation for future personalization, testing, and enterprise-wide performance visibility.
Accurate Revenue Attribution
Fixing cross-domain tracking and integrating marketing platforms ensures that every booking is correctly tied to its marketing source. This gives travel brands the confidence to invest in the channels that truly drive results.
Faster, Smarter Optimization
By streamlining analytics and A/B testing workflows, teams can move quickly from insights to action. This leads to more effective campaigns and faster improvements in conversion performance.
